Wetherby Townsperson of the Year - 2025
The 2025 winner is Mark Burrow Scroll down to make a nomination for 2026
Last year's Townsperson Kazia Knight, Lion President Martin Doxey and Lion Vice President Ruth Holt were given an impossible task when presented with the shortlist of this year's nominees for 'Townsperson of the Year 2025'. Wetherby should be justifiably very proud of having so many public spirited residents !
This year's Townsperson of the Year is Mark Burrow
"Well, that was out of the blue and totally unexpected. This morning, I was awarded the Wetherby Townsperson of the Year 2025 for my services locally and nationally to the freshwater environment over the last 35 years. For once I was just about speechless!”
Mark Barrow, this year’s recipient seen with Lion President Martin Doxey, has been on BBC’s Countryfile in a programme about the Yorkshire Dales. He has been filming underwater for 35 years and, in the programme, he mentioned the wonderful variety of fish in the Wharfe but the worst part of his work is the sewage. He called the situation in the river Wharfe ‘appalling.’
