Great Yorkshire Bike Ride 2015

The Great Yorkshire Bike Ride is one of the most popular and successful charity cycle rides in Yorkshire. Each year a sell-out entry of 2,000 riders of all ages and abilities sign up to take on the challenge of the 70 mile route from Wetherby to Filey. The annual event is in it’s 32nd year has currently raised £2.46m for charity projects since the GYBR started in 1984 with 250 riders taking part. The route takes in some of the greatest scenery that North Yorkshire has to offer with the climb over the Howardian Hills to the long journey through the Yorkshire Wolds to the climax of the ride, the arrival at Filey Country Park on the East Coast. The 2015 ride took place on Saturday the 6th of June. There were 1,767 riders at the start and the riders were helped along by a very strong westerly wind which literally blew them to the finish. They had four drink stops along the route plus lunch provided at the half way point. The event was sponsored in 2015 by a great group of Yorkshire companies, small & large, including Premier Farnell, Brownridge Transport, Chevin Cycles, Cyclesense, All Terrain Cycles, Goosemoor Organics, Countersales UK & Spectrum Community Health. Charity proceeds for 2015 will be split between a group of charities including Yorkshire Cancer Research, Candlelighters Trust, Heart Research UK, Hollybank Trust, Wetherby Lions, Ryedale Mencap, Epilepsy Research UK, PhysCap & Jennyruth Workshops.
